United Association (UA)
UA Outlet Deals Under Armour
Why do sorcerer subclasses struggle to ever get past UA?
So we're 6 years into DnD 5e now, and sorcerer is sitting in the unique spot of being the only class with more UA subclasses than actual subclasses. Over and over a group of new sorcerer subclasses will be released, and then vanish never to be seen again. Even classes which have got much less UA have grown faster due to the much higher ratio of subclasses making the final cut. Released subclasses:
Psionic Soul/Aberrant Mind
Why is sorcerer struggling to grow so much? What subclasses would people like to see for the class? I personally love elemental themes and so would love to see phoenix, stone, and maybe a reworked water (cold?) based sorcerer get added.
Just a concept (no I am no photoshop master) but I always find it annoying having to go into my inventory in order to use UAs. They are not on the healing wheel. So why not just add them in-place of the ultimate use. That way when your ultimate is on cool down you can use them with ease.
What UA subclass do you want to get another chance?
With Tasha's bringing a bunch of subclasses, I want to shine a light on the subclasses that most likely or definitely haven't made it. What Unearthed Arcana subclasses (or anything else, because why not) do you want to see get another chance? Personally, I'd love to see the Phoenix Soul Sorcerer getting another shot since it has such good flavor. Alternatively, I'd really like to see another attempt at a Prestige class, because i feel the Rune Scribe was a bad example to start with, and i think adding Prestige options would make for a lot more player options.
Artificer Initiate (UA) opens up new options for Alchemist
The Artificer Initiate feat (UA), if it stays as written, has some good synergy with Alchemical Savant. Here's the feat's critical benefit:
You gain proficiency with one type of artisan’s tools of your choice, and you can use that type of tool as a spellcasting focus for any spell you cast that uses Intelligence as its spellcasting ability.
If you pick your alchemy tools as the spellcasting focus this then allows you to apply Alchemical Savant to spells you previously couldn't. Here's the key wording of alchemical savant:
Whenever you cast a spell using your alchemist’s supplies as the spellcasting focus, you gain a bonus to one roll of the spell. That roll must restore hit points or be a damage roll that deals acid, fire, necrotic, or poison damage, and the bonus equals your Intelligence modifier (minimum of +1).
This opens up some new options for alchemists, particularly for combat where the class is desperately lacking in options. Obvious synergies to me are:
using green-flame blade (via feat or racial)
dip 1 level of Death Cleric and also get Toll the Dead via a feat or racial (e.g., Magic Initiate Wizard)
Wizard AoE spells (via a 1-3 level dip)--Burning Hands, Acid Stream, Aganazzar's Scorcher, or Dragon's Breath.
And other fun options if your DM allows int-based warlocks. I don't think it is anything overpowered, but the Alchemist needs all the help it can get. *EDIT added an example to the death cleric for clarity\*
You can have a swarm of Velociraptor if you pick the UA Swarmkeeper Ranger
In Volo's Guide to Monster, Velociraptors are considered Tiny Beast. In the ability description for the Swarmkeeper Ranger it is described that you can have a swarm of any Tiny Beasts. This gives you no mechanical advantage than choosing any other animal as your swarm, but it is still sick as fuck.
